The Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Award is open to Primary Nominations!
For the first time the PLAA is open for nominations from Primary Schools as well as Secondary Schools. Primary School Librarian of the Year 2022 Jenny Griffiths tells us why this is a positive change for the Award:
Pupil Library Assistants (or Library Prefects as we call them here at Ravens Park Preparatory School) are an essential part of the successful running of our library, and these positions are highly sought after at our school. Pupils understand the importance and responsibility of the role and know that being a good library user is a major factor in the selection criteria.
They are all wonderful advocates of library and demonstrate active reading for pleasure qualities.
Pupil Library Assistants deserve a primary category within this prestigious award because they make significant contributions to the running of their primary-age group libraries. Our Pupil Library Assistants recommend books to their peers; shelve; spine-label and place barcodes in new books; help with World Book Day; enter literary quizzes, and we are just about to pilot a more accessible book review process using technology and …. I can’t give it all away as I will definitely be nominating! It will be very difficult to choose who to put forward as they all have their own strengths and are becoming a fabulous team (and a huge support to me)!
Jenny Griffiths, Primary School Librarian of the Year 2022 and Librarian at Ravens court Park Preparatory School
